Epoxidized soybean oil serves as a remarkable precursor in the polymer industry. Through ring opening grafting of epoxidized bonds, it can craft polymers with diverse properties, making it a promising material.

Properties

Under normal conditions, this product exhibits as a light yellow, thick oily liquid. It solidifies below 5°C. Its water solubility is 0.55% at 25°C and it dissolves in hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, and higher alcohols, with slight ethanol solubility. Esteemed as the most widely-used epoxide plasticizer and stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride.
